Key Modules
Explore a curriculum carefully calibrated for modern global leaders. These strategic modules ensure a profound academic foundation alongside practical consultancy skills required in aviation governance.
Strategic Aviation Management and Operations
The airline industry is one of the most dynamic service sectors, combining heavy investment in aircraft with the volatile nature of air travel. This module introduces core strategic management concepts and applies them to the challenges airlines and airports face, from building competitive advantage to planning future infrastructure across different regulatory and ownership environments. With a strong experiential focus, it develops a critical, reflective approach to real work-based management issues.
E-Commerce Strategy for Aviation – Optional
This module explores how e-commerce and the digital age are reshaping the strategic activities of airlines and airports. From the first airline booking websites in the 1990s to today’s online travel sector worth over half a trillion dollars, it examines how internet technologies are building more direct relationships between airlines and customers. Particular attention is given to how new carriers exploit digital channels and how legacy airlines are adapting.
Aviation Finance and Forecasting
This module introduces the management of airline costs as a key skill for commercial airline managers. The airline industry is highly volatile because of its complex production costs and regular exposure to external shocks, making sound financial strategy vital to survival. The module examines the factors affecting costs, revenues and profitability at airlines and airports, along with techniques for forecasting travel demand and managing financial risk.
Sustainability in Global Aviation Companies
Creating sustainable businesses is now fundamental to organisational strategy, and airlines and airports face increasing scrutiny over their impacts. This module examines how the sustainability agenda, from government policy and international agreements to environmental and social impact measurement, is shaping industry. It equips students to build sustainable business practices within a globalised trading system, with particular focus on sustainability reporting and reporting standards.
Leading and Developing People
This module prepares students to lead and develop people in a complex international environment, build high-performance teams and create a productive workplace culture. Drawing on contemporary research and real business practice, it examines the roles of managers and leaders in digitally enabled organisations. Students assess their own capabilities using Strengthscope and develop the skills to motivate others and contribute effectively to organisational change.
Business Consultancy Project
This module gives students the opportunity to tackle a real business issue facing an organisation, working from problem identification through to practical, solution-focused recommendations. Students produce a professional business research report and management summary that provides a clear basis for action. The project builds critical reflection, subject expertise and confidence, strengthening the consultancy skills valued by employers.
